The Asian Resource Center

28.8 kW of community solar in Oakland, California

Thanks to the 134 community members who funded the project, the Asian Resource Center is now home to Oakland’s first community-funded solar project! Together, the organizations in the ARC address a range of social issues in the areas of affordable housing, health care, youth programs, environmental justice, and more. Now their important work is powered by the sun.

The Asian Resource CenterThe building, located in the heart of Oakland’s Chinatown, is owned and operated by the East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation (EBALDC). EBALDC was founded in 1975, when a handful of college students and community members came together to transform an old, deteriorating warehouse into a multi-service center to serve the needs of low-income communities in the East Bay.

Now in its 30th year, the vision of ARC is still alive, and the building continues to be a vibrant home to community organizations. The 28.8 kW solar installation (enough to power approximately 7 homes) will save the building an estimated $112,684 over the lifetime of the lease. ARC is leading the way for more solar installations that will create jobs and clean power across Oakland.
